Indiana’s largest air show is coming to Warsaw in August.
Allen Hoover, local pilot, said the Warsaw Air Show will be Friday and Saturday, Aug. 15-16. Hoover told the Kosciusko County Commissioners this morning that, last year, more than 7,000 people attended the air show and that this year’s show is expected to be “a lot bigger” and cost $35,000 to $40,000.
Hoover requested $10,000 from the county, saying the funds are needed for infrastructure, such as bleachers and portable toilets.
“It will be the largest air show in Indiana,” said Hoover, adding the show will have a positive economic impact on the county.
Last year’s show cost $10,000, most of which came from donations, Hoover explained. The two-day air show will feature a concert, a candy drop, airplane rides and other family-friendly events. Hoover said the goal this year is to honor veterans.
“It’s a great opportunity for this community,” said commissioner Ron Truex adding that funding needs to come from the Kosciusko County Convention and Visitors Bureau. Commissioners will contact the bureau and ask them to support the show with funding.
In other business, Lawrence “Bud” Sawyer, 91, of Milford was named April’s Veteran of the Month. A World War II veteran, Sawyer served in the 45th Division of the U.S. Army and was discharged from the Army with a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was shot in the knee and spent a year in rehabilitation in England.
In highway news, commissioners signed the department’s annual 38-page operational report for local roads and streets for 2014.
The board also approved a contract with LPA Consulting for reconstruction of the Husky Trail bridge, Warsaw. The contract is for engineering and design purposes; construction is expected to start in 2016.
Quote letters to buy box beams for a bridge will be opened and reviewed at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, May 20. Work is expected to begin this summer on the bridge on CR 300 North, Warsaw, over the Tippecanoe River.
A permit application for parking for April 12-13 for Backwater Retriever Club was approved. The permit is so members can park along CR 1000 East from CRs 750 North to 1000 North for an AKC spring hunt test.
A strip of land off Country Club Drive in Warsaw will need to have a tax certificate sale. Attorney Chad Miner said that way the county doesn’t have to pay for title work, so he suggested to do a resolution on it; the board will start the process to do so.
