Arthur J. Vickery
Arthur J. Vickery, 94, of Warsaw, Ind., passed away at 2:25 p.m. on Sunday March 23, 2014, at Mason Healthcare and Rehab in Warsaw.
He was born on Oct. 17, 1919, in Springfield, Ohio, to William Joseph and Laura Belle (Spencer) Vickery. He attended public schools in Ohio and served in the United States Army during World War II. On Aug. 3, 1946, in Anderson, Ind., he married Rosemary Gooding, who preceded him in death.
He was a lifetime truck driver for Consolidate Freightways and lived most of his life in Anderson; Akron, Ind.; Ohio; Barbee Lake, Ind.; Port Charlotte, Fla; and Muncie, Ind.; before moving to Warsaw in 2013.
He was a life member of the American Legion Post 253 in North Webster.
He is survived by two daughters: Nadine (William) Mowery, North Webster, Ind.; Phyllis Mann, Niles, Mich.; three sons: Robert (Ellen) Vickery, Warsaw; Joseph (Nancy) Vickery, Fort Wayne, Ind.; Daniel (Mary) Vickery, Muncie, Ind.; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and sisters: Phyllis Sue Hedge and Maxine Cripe, both of Scottsburg, Ind.
He was preceded by his parents, wife, two sons: Arthur William ‘Butch’ Vickery; James David Vickery; two brothers: George and Robert Vickery; and four sisters: Betty Knapp, Helen Higi, Marie Cann and an infant sister.
Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, at Owen Family Funeral Home, SR 13 and CR 500 N., North Webster. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, in the funeral home with Russ Chandler, chaplain of the North Webster American Legion officiating. Military services will follow at the funeral home by the North Webster American Legion. Private family burial will take place at the Mock Addition of the North Webster Cemetery.
