Furnivall Tabbed For All-Star Game
Warsaw senior star Gabe Furnivall headlines a lengthy list of area football players chosen to take part in the Grange Insurance All-Star Game.
Furnivall, an outstanding defensive back for the Tigers, helped coach Phil Jensen’s squad post a 7-4 mark this past fall. Warsaw also went 5-2 to tie for second place in the Northern Lakes Conference.
Furnivall, also a standout performer for the highly-successful Warsaw boys track program, earned IFCA All-State honors in Class 6-A for his senior season. He led the Tigers in total tackles (62) and tackles for loss (10) while also adding two interceptions and a pair of sacks.
Concord coach Tim Dawson has been chosen to coach the North team, which Furnivall will play for in the All-Star Classic. Dawson guided the Minutemen to a 10-3 overall record during the 2013 season, which ended with a loss to Westfield in the Class 5-A semi state game.
Dawson, who is 176-107 in 25 seasons at Concord, also guided the Minutemen to another NLC championship at 6-1. He will be joined for the game by Concord assistant coach Sam Vaughan, along with Minutemen receiver Adam Glanders and defensive tackle Mike McQueen.
Also selected to play for the North squad in the annual game are center Cody Spurgeon of Jimtown, linebacker Aaron Hancock of Penn, fullback Michael Hartman of Plymouth, offensive lineman Hunter Schuman of Glenn, tight end Chad Swain of New Prairie, receiver Denton Gillis of South Bend St. Joseph, safety Daigen Morgan of South Bend Riley and linebacker Teegan Brumbaugh of Churubusco.
The Grange All-Star game will be played July 18 at North Central High School in Indianapolis.
