The results we get in our life, career, or business don’t just happen. There is a process or formula for getting results. The process is the same regardless of whether the results are positive or negative.
Here is the formula for getting results: Thoughts become words. Words become action. Action gets results.
Events, both positive and negative, will occur in your life. Many times you will have no control over the event itself, but by understanding the formula for getting the end results you desire is the key. Let’s take a look at what appears to be a positive and negative event and see how the formula works.
You may lose a job at no fault of your own. However, losing your job does not mean the end result of your life is one of misery. If after losing your job your thoughts turn to anger, bitterness and woe is me, then the words you speak will be angry, bitter and woe is me. Your actions will be seen as anger, bitterness and woe is me as well. Your actions may stop you from looking for another job, or you will project anger and bitterness in a job interview. This will decrease the chance of getting the job. Trust me, interviewers can pick up on these things very easily.
What if we changed the input into the formula even though you lost your job? What if your thoughts turn to ones of how this unforeseen negative event allows you to pursue your dream job or the opportunity to start your own business? The words you speak will be positive and encouraging to yourself and to those around you. Your actions in a job interview will now be seen as a positive attitude, therefore increasing your likelihood of getting the job.
Negative thoughts lead to negative words. Negative words lead to negative actions. Negative actions will lead to negative results. It works this way every time.
Let’s look at what appears to a positive event which will surely make life fantastic forever and ever. Winning $100 million in a lottery would surely solve all of life’s problems, right? Even though this event appears to be one which will give you a life of no worries, the end result still depends on the formula. How can this be?
If the foundational thoughts you have about spending money are incorrect it will lead to you speaking incorrect words regarding your new found wealth. This will lead you to the action of spending money in an incorrect manner. You may start thinking you don’t need family and friends anymore because you have all this money. This can lead to harsh words being spoken, which leads to regrettable actions and to results you never dreamed of because you thought $100 million makes everything better. (Just so you know, most people who win or inherit this kind of money are broke in five years and they often lose many close relationships as well.)
Again, what if we changed the input into the formula from negative to positive? You would start to think that even though you have $100 million, you still need to plan your saving and spending. You will think family and friends are still more important than money in your life and you need them. The words you speak to those close to you will continue to be ones of love and affection.
If you don’t like the results you are getting, maybe you need to change the input into the formula. It works every time, whether we want it to or not.
Thoughts become words. Words become action. Action gets results.
