Edgewood Ladies Claim Conference Title
WARSAW – The Edgewood Middle School 8th grade girls basketball team returned home Saturday with a championship trophy in hand.
The talented team, coached by Julie Seiss, claimed the Northeast Lakes Middle School Conference championship with a pair of wins at Indian Springs Middle School in Columbia City.
Edgewood, which also won the conference title last year as seventh graders, defeated Lincoln 41-27 in the semifinals and then topped Wawasee 32-20 in the title game to claim the conference crown.
Jessie Kersey scored 10 points and Hope Fancil had eight in the semifinal win for Edgewood. Fancil led the champions with 10 points and Emma Bohnenkamper added seven in the title game win.
Members of the championship team include Miah Holsclaw, Katiana Rodriguez, Kennedy Patton, Jessie Kersey, Hope Fancil and Amvber Hagan. The championship squad also includes Kerigan Hatfield, Morgan Bruner, Regan Johnson, Emma Bohnenkamper, Alexi Day and Sara Linton.
Hayley Thrasher was the manager for the team.
