Bernice Mayhugh
Bernice Mayhugh, 89, of Warsaw, Ind., passed away at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, in her residence.
On Jan. 12, 1925, she was born in Floyd County, Ky., to Riley and Dona Shepherd. She was united in marriage to Richard K. Mayhugh on Dec. 20, 1947, in South Bend, Ind. He preceded her in death on Aug. 1, 2010.
Berniece moved to Kosciusko County where she lived most of her life. She worked for Gatke Inc. and Dalite Screen, Warsaw, and attended New Hope Freewill Baptist Church, Warsaw. Most days, she could be found in her kitchen cooking, baking or making root beer floats or sitting in her rocker, quilting. Her life’s pursuit was of giving the best of what she had to others. She will be remembered for her love of God, family and friends and her zest for life.
Berniece is survived by her daughter: Connie (Garry) Himes, Warsaw; two grandchildren, Bethany (James) Weddell, Noblesville, Ind.; and Matthew (Rachelle) Himes, Warsaw; five great-grandchildren: Alexis, Morgan and Nolan Himes, all of Warsaw; and Alexander and Katelyn Weddell, both of Noblesville, Ind.; and three sisters: Allie Hicks, Sebring, Fla.; Mary (Dan) Murphy, Greeley, Colo.; and Fanny (Robert) Cozzi, Warsaw.
She was preceded in death by four brothers: Odis Shepherd, Bill Shepherd, Malcome Shepherd and Virgil Shepherd; and two sisters: Nearie Smith and Maudie Shepherd.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, at the funeral home with Pastor David Cripe add Pastor Terry Bradford officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
