Carolyn Jean Morrison
Carolyn Jean Morrison, 90, Warsaw, Ind., passed away at 2:45 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at her residence.
She was born on Jan. 16, 1924, in Lynbrook, N.Y., to Elsie (Georgi) Nafis and Frederick Ashley Nafis. She was a 1940 graduate of Malverne High School in New York. Carolyn met the love of her life, O. Winston Morrison, and they exchanged letters while he was stationed in Bermuda during WWII. They were married Aug. 30, 1947, in Lynbrook, and enjoyed almost 64 years of marriage together.
She lived in Gary before moving to Warsaw. She loved her family and church, and was an avid reader. She will be missed by all who experienced her caring heart and ready smile. She worked as secretary/office manager for an import/export company in New York City, N.Y. She was a member of the USO, Civil Air Patrol and soloed in a Piper Cub during the early years of WWII. She was in a women’s golf league for several years at Rozella Ford Golf course in Warsaw and later earned her Ham radio license.
She is survived by her two daughters: Elsie French, New Castle, Ind.; Judy (David) Owens, Warsaw; son: Richard (Sally) Morrison, Bellville, Ohio; 10 Grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; a sister: Doris McKee, Albany, N.Y.); and brother: Robert (June) Nafis, Ithica, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a daughter: Doris Morrison; and brother: Warren Nafis of Glendora, Calif.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Rd., Warsaw. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the funeral, and will be officiated by Pastor Erik Ohman. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw.
