He was born Aug. 28, 1937, in Kosciusko County, Ind., to J. Clyde and Parentha V. (Kindig) Johnson. He graduated in 1955 from Beaver Dam High School.
He was a R.R. Donnelley employee as well as a farmer and a truck driver. He loved training and riding horses as well as hunting. He was the first double lung transplant ever performed at IU Med Center and the oldest living lung transplant recipient.
He is survived by his companion: Bonnie J. Cleveland, Mentone; daughters: Shasta A. (Mike) Corcoran, Forth Worth, Texas; and Shana S. (Nick) Hanks, Amarillo, Texas; sons: Dannie J. Johnson, Liberal, Kan.; and Jay A. (Jeanette) Johnson, Haslet, Texas; four grandchildren; Bonnie’s children: Teresa Cosgrove, Lake Placid, Fla.; Mark and Cindy Lingofelter, Nappanee, Ind.; and
Penni Cloud, Elkhart, Ind.; Bonnie’s grandchildren: seven grandchildren and 11 great-randchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister: Carolyn Enyart.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, at King Memorial Home, Mentone. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, in the funeral home with Pastor Michael McFarland. Burial will be in Mentone Cemetery.
