Fine Finish, Free Throws Carry Triton
BREMEN – A strong start and an even finer finish carried Triton to a Northern State Conference boys basketball win at Bremen Thursday night.
The Trojans outscored the hosts 20-12 in the final stanza to rally for a 63-59 league win.
Triton led 17-10 after the opening period and 36-31 at intermission. Bremen then outscored the Trojans 16-7 in the third quarter to take a 47-43 lead.
Tanner Shepherd pumped in a game-high 22 points to pace the winners. The senior standout hit 11-13 free throws in the victory.
The free throw line was huge for the Trojans. Triton hit 20-25 from the stripe, while Bremen was just 2-3 from the line.
Skyler Reichert netted 14 points and hit four treys for Triton. Joey Corder had eight points and 10 rebounds and Austin Sellers six points for the Trojans.
Triton, which improves to 10-6 overall and 4-2 in the NSC, shot 18-38 overall from the field, including a key 7-14 from distance.
Joey Atkins scored 21 points to lead Bremen, which dropped to 2-12 overall and 0-5 in league play with its eighth straight loss.
Ryan Topper netted 16 points and Matt Box 15 for the Lions, who shot 26-57 overall from the field, including just 5-21 on 3-point tries.
Triton won the junior varsity contest by a 41-32 final. Landon Kauffman led the Trojans with 19 points.
Triton plays at Rochester Tuesday. Bremen plays at NSC foe Knox on Saturday afternoon.
