Milford, Syracuse Issue Feeze Warning
Due to the extreme winter weather and constant cold, the towns of Milford and Syracuse have issued a freeze warning for water services.
Tom Miller, of Severn Trent, the company that runs the town’s water department, said water department staff are starting to see some frozen meters around town. Miller noted the freeze warning is a preventative measure, not an emergency. The water department is trying to stay on top of the situation.
Milford Utilities Superintendent Randy Veach is declaring a freeze warning and asking all Milford residents to run water from a faucet. Residents are then asked to call Milford Town Hall at (574) 658-4519 to let them know water is being run so a credit will appear on the resident’s next bill.
Residents and businesses in Syracuse should leave their water run, at a cold-water faucet located inside their home or business until the utility notifies them to stop. The water should be run in a small stream the size of a pencil lead. Miller said it was foreseeable the warning could continue until March. Those leaving their water running are to notify the clerk-treasurer’s office at (574) 457-3216 so their water bills can be adjusted. The town of Syracuse will issue a press release when the freeze warning has past.
While the weather is to warm up in the next few days, it will not affect the frost line, which is currently at 4 feet deep.
