Trojans Roll In Own Sectional
BOURBON – LaCrosse kept it close for one quarter versus Triton Tuesday night.
From there, it was all Trojans.
The hosts rolled to a 72-28 win in first-round action of the Class 1-A Triton Sectional.
Triton led just 18-12 after the opening period of play in the girls basketball tourney contest. The Trojans then outscored LaCrosse 20-2 in the second stanza and the rout was on.
Triton (14-6) earns the right to face Argos (10-8) in the second semifinal game at approximately 8 p.m. Friday. The Trojans defeated Argos 53-29 back on Nov. 19.
The 6:30 p.m. semifinal Friday will have No. 1 Oregon-Davis (17-2) versus No. 9 Culver (14-4). The winners then meet in the sectional title game on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
Kylie Mason was lights out from the field to pace Triton Tuesday night. The guard hit 9-11 shots from the field in scoring a game-high 21 points.
Taylor Hatfield netted 11 points and Hannah Jennings scored 10 for coach Adam Heckaman’s squad. Krystal Sellers added nine points for the Trojans.
Katie Vance scored 14 points for LaCrosse, which finishes at 6-13.
Triton shot 27-45 from the field, including 5-11 from distance Tuesday night. LaCrosse was just 10-27 from the field and had 29 turnovers.
Oregon-Davis opened sectional play Tuesday night by beating South Central 73-55. Ashley Campbell tossed in 35 points, including hitting five treys, to pace the Bobcats.
South Central, which finishes at 13-8, got 24 points from Riley Popplewell.
