Beatrice Hope (Harris) Crum
Beatrice Hope (Harris) Crum, 92, of Warsaw, Ind., passed away at 3:34 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, in Millers Merry Manor, Wakarusa, Ind. where she had resided since March 2009 following a stroke.
Born on May 15, 1921, in Indianapolis, Ind., to Earl R. and Edith S. (Sickler) Harris of Fort Wayne, Ind. She graduated from Elmhurst High School, Waynedale, Ind., in 1939 and was united in marriage Nov. 29, 1942, to John H. Crum, who preceded her in death.
She was a member of Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Beatrice loved music, playing the snare drum in high school and the marimba throughout her adult years. In 2007, she was privileged to donate the marimba to a church in Goshen, Indiana. She had a beautiful alto singing voice and especially loved church hymns. A resident of Warsaw since 1954, she worked in many capacities including child care, seasonal work at Winona Lake to open the summer residences, John’s “right hand person” while he owned/operated Crum Garage, kitchen prep/server at the Shrine building and finally, 17 years as laundry supervisor at Grace Village Healthcare.
During her years at Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa, she was initially known for her love of putting together jigsaw puzzles and watching all of the activities in the parking lot from the window of her room. She had a beautiful smile for all, a gentle, loving spirit and strong hugs for all.
She is survived by daughters: Nancy VanKovering, Winona Lake, Ind.; Joyce (Noel) Hislope, Elkhart, Ind. and a son: Keith (Jan) Crum, Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw with Reverend David Hudson officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
