Warriors Make Noise At Swim Prelims
DUNLAP – The Wawasee girls swim team is poised to add another trophy to its history making season.
The No. 10 Warriors took a big step towards a sectional championship with an impressive effort Thursday night in the preliminaries of the Concord Sectional.
The Wawasee girls swim program has won three sectional titles in school history with the last coming in 1999. Northridge, who Wawasee dethroned to claim the conference title last month, has won 11 of the last 12 sectional championships.
But, it looks like come Saturday there will be some more hardware headed back to Syracuse.
Wawasee nabbed top seeds in three events for Saturday’s finals, led by star Bre Robinson. The Warriors showed their impressive depth up and down the lineup too as they had 17 individuals place in the top eight to move on the finals.
Robinson, who led the Warriors to the program’s first Northern Lakes Conference title since 1996 back on Jan. 18, once again was dominant. The junior standout was best in the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.47 and also claimed the 100 backstroke in 57.44.
The Warriors’ 400 freestyle relay team also turned in the top time of the prelims with a 3:50.31.
Wawasee also had its’ 200 medley relay team and its’ 200 freestyle relay foursome each notch the second-fastest times Thursday night.
Host Concord and Goshen each had the top swims in three prelim events. Northridge posted the top efforts in a pair of events.
The finals on Saturday begin with the diving prelims at 9 a.m. at Concord High School. The finals in all swimming events and diving will begin at 1 p.m.
