Grace Celebrates Basketball Milestone
WINONA LAKE, Ind. – Fifty-seven seasons, 4 coaches and over 1,700 games have led to a historic milestone for Grace College men’s basketball: 1,000 all-time Lancer victories.
Grace became just the fourth Crossroads League team — along with Taylor, Huntington and Bethel — to reach the 1,000 win mark. The Lancers achieved their historic mark on Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Lancers’ home game against Goshen.
Special No. 1,000 Lancer jerseys were presented by Director of Athletics Chad Briscoe before the game to Grace President Dr. Bill Katip, Vice President of Student and Academic Services Jim Swanson, and head coach Jim Kessler. T-shirts with the official “1,000 Lancer victories” logo were also available for sale at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center to commemorate Grace’s achievement.
After the contest, Lancer basketball alumni celebrated 1,000 Lancer victories in a ceremony at center court. All Grace College men’s basketball alumni who were present were honored at the conclusion of the men’s game against Goshen for their contribution to Grace’s milestone. In addition, the men gathered for a photo, prayer, and time of fellowship after Grace’s win.
