Lady Lancers Nab Fourth In A Row
GOSHEN – Four players reached double figures in scoring for Grace’s women’s basketball team in an 86-72 victory over Goshen on Saturday.
The Lady Lancers (12-12; 8-4 Crossroads League) won their fourth consecutive game, holding onto fourth place in the league standings.
Allison Kauffman led all players with 20 points and seven rebounds, and Juaneice Jackson tallied 18 points and five assists.
The teams started the game shooting well as each squad made better than half of their shots through the midway point of the first half.
The Maple Leafs, in particular, had a hot hand. Goshen made 17 of its first 26 shots for a 65 percent clip. Grace found its mark from the 3-point line, however, hitting four 3-pointers before halftime. Juaneice Jackson was 2-for-2 from beyond the arc in the first half.
A late jumper from Jackson lifted the Lady Lancers to a 48-41 lead entering halftime.
The Lady Lancers gradually extended that lead in the second half, using a 12-2 spurt to push their advantage to double figures. Once Grace had a double-digit lead, they maintained it for the final 9:46.
Goshen’s shooting touch disappeared after halftime as the Maple Leafs struggled to hit 13-of-31 from the floor. The Lady Lancers, conversely, made 60 percent of their attempts in the second half and 57 percent for the game.
JoEllen Fickel and Dariyan Morris produced 10 points apiece off the bench, and Sarah Feasby added eight points. Lindsey Schaefer made all three of her field goals, finishing with nine points.
The Lady Lancers will look for a fifth consecutive win on Wednesday when Grace hosts Spring Arbor at 7 p.m.
