Warsaw Ladies Control Concord
WARSAW – The Warsaw girls basketball program celebrated Senior Night and in the process continued its domination over Concord Thursday night.
The host Tigers returned to action for the first time in more than a week in controlling Concord to the tune of a 42-23 win in Northern Lakes Conference action.
Warsaw, which had been scheduled to play Concord last Saturday, played for the first time since a 63-36 home loss to Penn on Jan. 22. The Tigers had NLC games with Concord and Elkhart Memorial (Tuesday) both postponed in the last week due to the extreme weather conditions.
The Tigers saluted seniors Nikki Grose, Brooklyn Harrison, Eryn Leek and Courtney Farling Thursday night.
Warsaw then went out and posted its 36th win in a row over Concord.
The Tigers led 15-7 after the opening quarter and then outscored the Minutemen 14-5 over the middle two periods of play.
Grose popped in a game-high 11 points and had seven rebounds to lead the way for Warsaw.
Leek netted seven points, while Vicki Harris had six and Harrison five as the Tigers improved to 8-9 overall and 3-2 in NLC play.
Pam Miller and Courtney Farling each scored four points, Carlson three and Erin Clemens two for the Tigers.
Mackenzie Rutter led Concord, now 6-10 overall and 1-4 in the NLC, with nine points. Concord had not played since beating South Bend Clay 38-24 on Jan. 21.
Warsaw shot 17-40 overall from the field, including 3-11 on 3-point tries. The Tigers were 5-8 from the free throw line. Concord shot 8-36 from the field, including 3-14 from long range, and went 4-7 from the line.
Warsaw won the junior varsity contest 36-28.
The Tigers host NLC foe NorthWood Saturday night. Warsaw then concludes NLC and regular-season play by hosting Elkhart Memorial next Wednesday. Concord hosts league opponent Wawasee Saturday afternoon.
