Wawasee Kiwanis Club is celebrating winter with its legendary and rejuvenated Snowmobile Drags happening this Saturday, Feb. 1, and its Soup Supper, taking place this Friday, Jan. 31.
With plenty of ice on Syracuse Lake and below average temperatures throughout January, everything is ready for these events.
The action is centered on the lake out from Lakeside Park Beach on Saturday and inside the Syracuse Community Center Friday evening. Proceeds from the winter festivities will be used for Wawasee Kiwanis community projects and Riley Children’s Hospital, Indianapolis.

Soup Supper
Head to the Syracuse Community Center, 1013 N. Long Dr., from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, also sponsored by Wawasee Kiwanis. It is actually a contest where those eating the soup get to vote for winners in four categories.
Entries come from local restaurants, civic groups, local individuals and government departments such as police, fire, town council, etc.
Here is how it works: Each person attending the soup supper will be given a ballot listing all the entries. Then each person samples as many soups as they want in small portions. Once the voting is done and the ballots turned in, voters will get a bowl of the soup of choice as well as crackers, drink and a dessert.
A trophy will be awarded to the winner. Entries must supply 3 gallons to 4 gallons of one kind of soup and deliver to the SCC by 3 p.m. Friday afternoon.
Those interested in entering a soup can visit the Wawasee Kiwanis website or call Elaine Pearson at 260-856-2287.
