Cold, Snow Only Winners
Mother Nature continues to be the only winner when it comes to area sporting events.
The cold and snow, which has cancelled another school day for virtually every corporation in the area yet again, has cancelled more athletic contests.
Those cancellations are already in force for Tuesday (Jan. 28) too as the cold has every area school corporation shut down for yet another day.
WCHS announced this evening (Monday) that its home girls basketball game Tuesday night versus Elkhart Memorial has been rescheduled for Feb. 5. Warsaw also announced that its boys basketball game at Concord is rescheduled for Feb. 4. The girls basketball game originally scheduled for Feb. 4 at Homestead has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled. The Wawasee at Warsaw gymnastics meet scheduled for Jan. 28 has also been postponed.
Another event to be cancelled is the Northern Lakes Conference Wrestling Tournament. The NLC Meet was postponed on Saturday and rescheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday nights at Concord High School. With sectionals coming up on Saturday and no break in sight from the winter weather, the decision was made Monday afternoon to cancel the NLC Tournament.
Triton High School has announced that all of its athletic events tonight (Jan. 27), which includes freshman boys basketball versus Knox, junior high boys basketball versus Urey and the Northern State Conference wrestling meet, are cancelled. None of the events will be rescheduled.
Triton also announced that its home girls basketball game tomorrow night (Jan. 28) versus Manchester has been postponed. The game is now set for Wednesday (Jan. 29), weather permitting. It will begin with the junior varsity contest at 6:15 p.m. at Triton.
The Triton 5th grade girls basketball game versus Akron is postponed Tuesday. It’s rescheduled for Feb. 4 at Triton at 4:30 p.m.
WCHS also has announced that its freshman boys basketball game tonight (Jan. 27) versus Fort Wayne North Side has been postponed. That game is rescheduled for Feb. 6 with a 6:15 p.m. tip-off time at WCHS.
Warsaw also announced that its home girls basketball game versus Concord has been rescheduled for Jan. 30. The NLC game, which was postponed Saturday night, will begin with the JV game at WCHS at 6:15 p.m. and it will be Senior Night. The freshman girls basketball game versus Concord will not be rescheduled.
Tippecanoe Valley High School has postponed its home girls basketball game versus Wawasee Tuesday night.
The Bethel at Goshen College men’s basketball game scheduled for Tuesday has been postponed. The game is rescheduled for Wednesday (Jan. 29) at 7 p.m. at Goshen College.
