Skiles Completes Economics Of Obamacare Course
Brad Skiles, founder and owner of Center Street Partners in Warsaw, recently completed the course, Economics of Obamacare. Offered through the Mises Academy, the four-week class attracted 169 students and included participants from 14 foreign countries.
The interactive Internet class was taught by Robert Murphy, Ph.D, a senior fellow in business and economics studies at the Pacific Research Institute, economist with the Institute for Energy Research and an associated scholar of the Mises Institute. He has authored five books, included The Politically Incorrect Guide to Capitalism.
“Although we studied the features of Obamacare, our focus was on the standard arguments — for and against— government intervention in health care and health insurance … including a study of the Canadian health care system,” said Skiles.
Prior to the Affordable Care Act, the U.S. health care system was highly regulated and had little connection to free market principles, according to Skiles. “We now are using central planners to manage this sector of our economy. Free market economics predicts this approach will be an expensive and ineffective way of managing health care,” added Skiles.
