Goshert Leads Way For Wesleyan
Taylor Goshert is having a stellar senior season on the hardwood for the Indiana Wesleyan University women’s basketball team.
The good news for area hoops fans is that they will get one more chance to see the former Wawasee High School star play close to home too.
Goshert and IWU will face Grace College on Wednesday night in a Crossroads League contest at the Manahan Orthopedic Capital Center in Winona Lake. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
Goshert, a 5-8 guard, has led her team to an 18-3 overall mark. The No. 5 Wildcats, who went 35-3 and won the NAIA Division II National Championship last season, won their ninth straight game and improved to 8-1 in conference play by beating Goshen College 89-64 Wednesday night. Goshert notched her fourth double-double of the season in the league win with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Goshert leads Wesleyan in scoring (12.9 points-per-game), rebounding (6.8), minutes played (30.3) and 3-pointers (31). She is shooting 78-180 from the field and is 83-95 from the free throw line.
The game at Grace Wednesday will also be a Homecoming of sorts for Wesleyan players Emma Stahl and Sarah Heagy. Stahl, a 5-7 junior guard, played at Jimtown High School, and Heagy, a 5-10 sophomore forward, played at Warsaw Community High School.
Stahl has started 20 games this season for the Wildcats. She leads the team in assists with 81 and is tied for the team lead in steals with 32. Stahl is averaging 9.1 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.
Heagy, who is also a standout in track and field, has played in 14 games. She is averaging 2.0 points and 1.4 rebounds per contest.
Indiana Wesleyan, which has won the last four conference championships, hosts league foe Bethel College Saturday in Marion.
