One Killed In SR 205 Accident
Indiana State Police investigated a two vehicle crash that occurred last evening on State Road 205 north of County Road 600S, that resulted in the death of a 33-year-old man from Whitley County.
According to Trooper Justin Snyder, at approximately 8:50 p.m., a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire driven by 43-year-old John M. Coulson, from Gary, was traveling northbound on SR 205, just north of CR 600 South, when it slid sideways and went left of center. It was struck broadside in the passenger door by a southbound 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by 35-year-old Carrie L. Dunn from South Whitley.
As a result of the crash, the front passenger of the Sunfire, Delbert L. Johnson Jr., 33, from Columbia City, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Noble County Coroner’s Office. Coulson, along with both Dunn and her son, 7-year-old Carmine K. Shoda, were taken to a Fort Wayne hospital for medical treatment. Their conditions are not known at this time.
Johnson, Coulson and Dunn were reportedly wearing their seatbelts and Shoda was restrained in a booster seat at the time of the crash. Family notifications for all involved have been made.
Assisting at the scene were the Noble County Sheriff Department, LaOtto Fire Department, Churubusco Fire Department, Huntertown Fire Department, Noble County EMS, Whitley County EMS, Huntertown EMS and the Noble County Coroner’s Office.
