FWA Seeing Increase Of Passengers
Passenger traffic at Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) increased five percent in 2013, marking the fourth consecutive year of growth for the airport.
Passenger enplanements, or the number of people boarding flights at FWA, were 298,661 last year, compared to 284,465 in 2012. Total traffic for the airport, which includes passengers arriving to and departing from FWA, was 592,968 in 2013 compared to 564,777 in 2012.
“In addition to the convenience of using FWA, our airfares are becoming more and more competitive with other airports in the region. Travelers might be surprised to find that when you factor in gas, parking, possibly an overnight hotel stay and your time, FWA is the more affordable choice,” said Scott Hinderman, executive director of Airports. “We encourage travelers to check FWA the next time they need to travel. They might like what they find.”
In 2013, FWA was able to retain its current flight schedule and welcome a new route to Phoenix/Mesa via Allegiant, a big success in an industry that is currently experiencing little growth. In 2014, the Airport Authority will continue efforts to add a northeast hub destination to the schedule in response to the community’s demand for access to that region of the country.
