Wawasee Gets ‘C’ Grade From IDOE
Indiana Department of Education publicly released its annual school corporation accountability grades Jan. 15. Wawasee Community School Corp. was given a C grade, the same as a year ago and the corporation’s points were down slightly from 2.57 a year ago to 2.32 today.
Dr. Tom Edington, Wawasee superintendent, said he did not recall corporation grades being released on a separate date from individual school grades in the past. Grades for individual schools were released just prior to the Christmas break.
Edington noted the corporation grade is based on ISTEP+ results for the entire school corporation “as if we were one big school” and not determined by an average of individual school grades.
He acknowledged he and others are aware improvement is needed and want to see better than a C grade, but Edington said the focus is more on preparing student achievement plans for each school that must be submitted to IDOE by Feb. 1. “We are working very hard to get those plans ready,” he said.
