Crashes On U.S. 20 Prompts Police To Issue Warning
Slick and icy road conditions and numerous accidents resulted in the U.S. 20 bypass (between SR 19 and Elm Road) being closed for a short period of time today between 10:14 a.m. and 11:14 a.m.
Elkhart County Sheriff’s Deputies were forced to shut down the bypass while working at least five crashes involving passenger vehicles, a waste management truck and a semi-truck. No injuries were reported from these crashes.
The U.S. 20 Bypass between SR 19 and Elm Road has since been reopened, however, motorists are cautioned to slow down and be aware that cold temperatures, especially near overpasses and open stretches of the roadway, can create freezing conditions on the roadway, making travel more difficult.
