Hey teens, bring your “BFF” to the library for a “Friendship Bracelet Workshop” during Teen Time at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16. We’ll be making Friendship Bracelets together, demonstrating various techniques and getting ideas from each other.
Popular among teens, these colorful bands of knotted thread or yarn are given by one friend to another as a symbol of friendship. The custom originated among the native people of Central and South America.
According to tradition, a bracelet is tied onto the wrist of a friend who makes a wish at that moment. The bracelet is then worn until it is completely worn out and falls off by itself at which point the wish comes true. If you’re in grades 6-12, join us for the Friendship Bracelet Workshop and let’s see how many wishes come true! The workshop is free and bracelet-making supplies are provided.
Adults will be learning desktop publishing during the two-part Beginning Microsoft Publisher Class at 4 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 21-22. Taught by Adult Services Director Beth Smith, this class will show you how to make flyers, business cards, brochures, newsletters and other publications using this popular computer software program. To take this free class, you must sign up in advance at the front desk. Class size is limited, so sign up early to reserve your spot.
Your favorite childhood television show will be the writing topic for Writer’s Corner that meets at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20. If you enjoy writing, you’re invited to join this group the third Monday of each month. Participants write essays every month on various assigned topics and then share and learn from each other. At 5:30 p.m. that same day, R.E.A.D. (Read, Eat And Discuss) Book Club meets to discuss The Yellow House by Patricia Falvey while enjoying refreshments and lively conversation.
Do you know someone who is homebound and would like to check out library materials? The library’s Homebound Delivery Program provides a free delivery and pick-up service for patrons unable to come to the library. A homebound patron can select materials from the library’s website or the library staff can make selections based on the patron’s preferences. A volunteer then delivers the materials and returns to pick them up.
To be eligible for this service, a patron must be a resident of Tippecanoe Township, unable to come to the library due to a disability or illness lasting six weeks or longer, and have no one who can go to the library for them. To find out if you or someone you know is eligible, contact Adult Services Director Beth Smith at 574-834-7122 ext. 205 or [email protected].
