Candidacy Filing Begins Jan. 8
Candidate filing began at 8 a.m. Jan. 8 for the May 6 primary election. Final deadline to declare a candidacy is Feb. 7.
Numerous individuals have already announced their candidacy with more expected.
While the office holders of county auditor, county recorder and county sheriff are at their term limits and cannot seek re-election, other individuals have also indicated they will not seek re-election.
Laurie Renier, county assessor, has stated she will not seek re-election.
Additionally, word has it Duane Huffer and James Jarrette, judges of Superior Court 1 and 2 respectively, will also not be seeking re-election. Jim Moyer, county council District 2, was undecided when asked.
All other eligible office holders are expected to file.
County positions up for election include: judges for Kosciusko Superior Court 1, 2 and 3; prosecuting attorney, auditor, recorder, sheriff, assessor, county commissioner southern district, county council districts 1, 2, 3 and 4.
Township offices of trustees and advisory board members as well as precinct committeemen are also on the May ballot.
Statewide the offices of State Representative District 22, U.S. Representatives for 2nd and 3rd districts are also up for election.
Election of secretary of state, state treasurer, auditor of the state, clerk of the supreme and appellate courts and school boards will take place in the November election.
