Grace Women Lose In Tourney
CHICAGO – Poor shooting foiled the Grace College women’s basketball team on Sunday in a 76-53 defeat at No. 11 Roosevelt.
The Lady Lancers (6-9) struggled to 27.6-percent shooting in the game, suffering a second straight loss in the Roosevelt Tournament.
Offense was particularly hard to come by in the opening half for Grace as the Lady Lancers shot 23 percent from the floor, including 1-of-8 from the 3-point line.
Despite their shooting struggles, Grace still led 12-9 after five minutes of action thanks to seven points from Allison Kauffman. But the Lakers (12-5) held the Lady Lancers without a field goal for over six minutes, opening up a double-digit lead they wouldn’t surrender.
Grace trailed 37-21 at halftime and could not come closer than 12 points for the rest of the contest.
Allison Kauffman led Grace in scoring with 16 points and nine rebounds in 23 minutes, and Juaneice Jackson added eight points. Sarah Feasby and JoEllen Fickel made 3-of-4 from the floor, and Dariyan Morris had four points and four assists.
As a team Grace committed 21 turnovers and gave up 34 points in the paint to Roosevelt. The Lady Lancers were also 2-of-15 from beyond the arc. The Lakers shot below 40 percent as a team, but they held a plus-eight advantage on the glass.
Grace will look to regroup in time for its clash with rival Bethel on Saturday. The Lady Lancers will host the Pilots in a women’s/men’s doubleheader at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center.
