Tigers Aim For Success At Home
WARSAW – A little home cooking.
The Warsaw girls basketball team hopes that’s the recipe for success following the holiday.
The Tigers return to the friendly confines of the Tiger Den Monday (Dec. 30) to host the annual TCU Lady Tiger Classic.
Warsaw looks to reverse its fortunes with a pair of home games. The Tigers are 2-7 on the season and in the midst of a four-game losing streak.
Coach Michelle Harter’s team, which has four seniors, has struggled to score points all season. The Tigers graduated two of their top three scorers from last year’s 24-2 team. Warsaw is averaging just 38.6 points-per-game this season and has scored less than 30 points in four contests, all losses.
Warsaw last played on Dec. 21 in a 39-35 loss at Wawasee in Northern Lakes Conference action. The Tigers have lost their last four to Wabash, Columbia City, Plymouth and Wawasee. Warsaw has defeated Whitko at home and posted a win at Michigan City.
The Tigers face Lowell (7-2) at 10 a.m. Monday in their tourney opener. Warsaw defeated South Bend St. Joseph (54-21) and Lowell (57-33) to win the tourney title a year ago.
The second game of the Classic features Crown Point (6-3) versus Indianapolis Perry Meridian (5-5).
Warsaw, after its tourney, will play Triton at Grace College on Jan. 4. The Tigers, who are 0-2 in league play, then host NLC foe Northridge on jan. 11.
Whitko, off to a strong start at 6-4, plays North Miami Friday afternoon in the Miami County Tournament at Maconaquah High School.
Wawasee, 2-6 after its win over county rival Warsaw, faces Brebeuf (1-6) and Norwell (6-2) in the Plymouth Shootout Jan. 4. The host Pilgrims are 7-3 after losing three of their last four games.
Lakeland Christian Academy, currently 3-6, hosts its own Cougar Classic Jan. 3-4 in Winona Lake.
Triton, which has won its last four games, is off until playing Warsaw Jan. 4. The Trojans are 7-3 on the season.
Tippecanoe Valley, which beat North Judson 50-37 Monday night, returns to action by hosting West Noble Jan. 7. The Vikings are 7-4 overall and 1-1 in the Three Rivers Conference after beating Whitko 70-51 last Saturday night. Valley has won four in a row.
