Silveus Earns All-Tourney Honors
GOSHEN – Chris Silveus had a strong showing Saturday to lead the Lakeland Christian Academy boys basketball team.
The Cougars went 0-2 in the Bethany Christian Holiday Tournament.
Host Bethany Christian topped the Cougars 64-29 in a first-round contest.
Silveus had 16 points and eight rebounds to lead LCA in the loss to the Bruins. Tristan Clark netted 13 points and Sol Brenneman added 12 to pace Bethany.
South Bend Trinity topped the Cougars 61-30 in the consolation game.
Carter Twombly had an outstanding effort with 12 points and eight rebounds for the Cougars. Cody Kline had 10 points for LCA.
Silveus was named to the All-Tournament Team for LCA.
Elkhart Christian piled up 178 points to win the tourney title. The Eagles beat Trinity 96-47 in a first-round contest. Cory Waycaster scored 26 points and Drew Overmyer and Tanner Watson each had 15 for the Eagles.
Waycaster, who was named MVP of the tourney, had 21 points in the title game as Elkhart Christian routed Bethany Christian 82-28. Overmyer had 19 points and Ryan Kupferschmid 12 for the champions.
Abe Thorne led Bethany in the title game with 12 points.
LCA (0-5) plays Clinton Christian Jan. 3 at 1:30 p.m. in its own Cougar Classic in Winona Lake. Trinity (2-5) plays LCA in the tourney Jan. 3 at LCA at 7:30 p.m. Elkhart Christian (5-1) hosts LCA and Bethany Christian (3-5) plays at Bremen, both on Jan. 7.
