Silver Lake Santa Continues Tradition
A tradition of the town of Silver Lake that had been forgotten came to life again Thursday night when Santa came to visit the children at the old fire station after making his rounds of the town atop a fire truck.
Escorted by our Silver Lake Deputy Marshal Jason McGlennen, Santa made the trip through town to make sure that all children could see him coming. Silver Lake Assistant Fire Chief John Conley made sure he was in plain view while driving him through the neighborhoods with lights and sirens going.
Children peeked out their windows or stood outside to make sure they caught a glimpse of their favorite man in red passing by.
Once settle into the old fire station on SR 15, Santa greeted the children. After they had shared their Christmas gift wishes, Santa gave each child a high five and a box of goodies. Even “big kids” sat on his lap.
Silver Lake Clerk-Treasurer Tonya Conley said, “We had a citizen of 30-plus years come to see him. She lost her husband just last month and their tradition was to go see Santa and get her picture taken with him.”
Conley said a total of 103 children came out last night just to see Santa.
