Kosciusko Under Winter Storm Warning
The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana has issued a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow from 7 p.m. this evening to 7 p.m. Saturday evening. The winter weather advisory is no longer in effect.
According to the NWS, snow will overspread the area from the southwest to the northeast this evening and will become heavy at times overnight through early Saturday afternoon.
Accumulations are expected to reach between 5 inches and 8 inches by early Saturday evening with higher amounts possible locally. At this time, the highest amounts are expected near or south of U.S. Route 6 across Indiana and Northwest Ohio.
The NWS stated possible impacts of this storm will include slick and hazardous roads tonight and tomorrow making travel dangerous across the warning area. Visibility will be reduced to less than one quarter mile with the heavy snow. The NWS urges the public to use caution when shoveling as this can be a very strenuous activity.
A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous and the NWS advises that you only travel in an emergency. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of emergency.
Other areas under the same warning are Marshall, St. Joseph, Noble, Starke, Pulaski, Fulton, Whitley, Wabash, Huntington, Miami, DeKalb, Allen, White, Cass, Wells, Adams and Grant counties.
