Warsaw Pair Highlight All-State Picks
INDIANAPOLIS – The outstanding senior tandem of Tristan McClone and Gabe Furnivall from Warsaw highlight the list of area football players honored as All-State by the Indiana Football Coaches Association.
McClone and Furnivall, both also outstanding track athletes, were All-State choices by the IFCA in Class 6-A. The pair led coach Phil Jensen’s Tigers to a 7-4 mark this fall.
Running back McClone rushed for 1,522 yards and 18 touchdowns his senior season. He ended his prep career with school records for yards in a season (1,718) and in a game (322), both set during his junior year.
Defensive back Furnivall led his team in total tackles with 62 and tackles for loss with 10. Furnivall also had a pair of interceptions and two sacks his senior season.
A pair of standout wide receivers, Tanner Andrews of Tippecanoe Valley and Clayton Cook of Wawasee, both were honored. Andrews was an All-State pick in Class 3-A and Cook was a Junior All-State honoree in Class 4-A.
Chosen as picks to the Top 50 Offense were senior offensive lineman Kirk Barron of Mishawaka Marian and Penn senior Zack Oakley as an at-large selection.
Honored in Class 6-A were McClone and Furnivall of Warsaw, along with senior linebacker Aaron Hancock of Penn. Juniors honored for Class 6-A were tight end Inoke Moala and linebacker Kyle Treber, both of Penn.
Players honored in Class 5-A were offensive lineman Zach Lytle of Mishawaka, wide receiver Nathan Troutman of Elkhart Memorial, running back Shaq Vann of South Bend Adams, defensive lineman Michael McQueen of Concord, defensive lineman Cameron Thomas of Mishawaka, linebacker Cody Shively of Mishawaka, linebacker Jacob Kronk of Concord and defensive back Nick DeFreeze of Concord. Juniors saluted in Class 5-A included offensive lineman Jacob Schmatz of Mishawaka, offensive lineman Bryce Banghart of Elkhart Memorial, defensive lineman Danny Pinter of South Bend Adams, linebacker Vincent Schnell of Elkhart Central, defensive back Brandon Thomas of Concord and at-large pick Jarrell Pointdexter of Concord.
The Class 4-A All-State list includes offensive lineman Garrett Guttermuth of South Bend St. Joe, offensive lineman Lucas Wickey of Northridge, running back Michael Hartman of Plymouth, defensive back Daigen Morgan of South Bend Riley, defensive back Wayne Smith of Columbia City and at-large pick Matthew Monserez of South Bend St. Joe. Juniors tabbed were offensive lineman Mirko Jurkovic of South Bend St. Joe, wide receiver Cook of Wawasee, wide receiver Justin Drudge of Plymouth and linebacker Travis Schlabach of Northridge.
The All-State selections in Class 3-A for the area include offensive lineman Cody Spurgeon of JImtown, offensive lineman Evan Garretson of Lakeland, wide receiver Andrews of Tippecanoe Valley, running back Cameron Kitson of Fairfield, running back Matt Barham of Rochester, linebacker Casey Adams of Jimtown, defensive back Dominic Ravotto of Mishawaka Maria and punter Michael Farkas of Mishawaka Marian. Juniors honored in Class 3-A are tight end Jonah Mikel of Tippecanoe Valley, linebacker Nik Olson of Jimtown and [unter Marquis Schieber of Jimtown.
