Vikings and Tigers and Warriors, Oh My!
INDIANAPOLIS – Three area high schools were issued great news among its football programs as the Associated Press issued its All-State football picks for the 2013 season.
Tippecanoe Valley, Warsaw and Wawasee all had players named to the AP lists, which issued First-Team and Honorable Mention selections for all six classes of football teams.
In Class 3-A, Tippecanoe Valley wide receiver Tanner Andrews was named First-Team All-State and his pitchman, quarterback Ben Shriver, was named Honorable Mention All-State. The Vikings, coached by Jeff Shriver, finished 5-5 this season and tied for second in the Three Rivers Conference.
In Class 4-A, Wawasee wide receiver Clayton Cook and defensive back Austin Lutz were both named Honorable Mention All-State. Cook was also an explosive kick returner as a junior and Lutz doubled as a dependable receiver. The Warriors, under first-year head coach Josh Ekovich, ended with a 5-5 record after losing to Leo in the sectional.
In Class 6-A, Warsaw had one player selected to the Honorable Mention All-State list in super running back Tristan McClone. The senior leaves as one of the most decorated backs in Tiger history, holding the season rushing record (1,718 yards) as a junior. Coach Phil Jensen’s Tigers were 7-4 last season and won its first sectional game in five years before losing to Fort Wayne Carroll in the first 6-A sectional championship.
