Warriors, Chargers Split In NLC Swims
ELKHART – The Wawasee girls and Elkhart Memorial boys had big nights in the Memorial pool Tuesday, picking up team wins in Northern Lakes Conference swims.
The Wawasee girls rolled, winning all 12 events for the second time in four meets, beating Memorial 127-59. The Memorial boys won the first six events and eight overall in knocking off Wawasee 96-79.
Paige Miller, Shelby Adams and Breanna Robinson each won two individual events and were on two winning relays while Kendra Miller and Kayla Hershberger also won events. Paige Miller won the 200 freestyle (2:00.70) and the 500 freestyle (5:18.65); Adams the individual medley (2:21.29) and breaststroke (1:13.77); and Robinson the butterfly (57.82) and backstroke (57.40). Kendra Miller took the 50 freestyle (27.06) and Hershberger the 100 freestyle (57.29).
Wawasee timed 1:57.09 in the medley relay, 1:48.21 in the 200 free relay and 3:50.50 in the 400 free relay.
The Lady Warriors (4-0, 2-0 NLC) also swept DeKalb to open the season.
Memorial’s Cameron Green had a huge night, responsible for four wins. Green won the 200 (1:59.70) and the butterfly (56.72) and was on the winning medley and 400 free relays. Austin King also won two individual events for the Chargers, taking the IM (2:19.23) and the breaststroke (1:06.48).
Wawasee (0-2, 0-2 NLC) had three individual winners, with Zac Hershberger capturing the 100 (52.17), Logan Brugh the 500 (5:09.80) and Danny Allen winning his first-ever event in the backstroke at 1:06.07, beating teammate Logan Haessig by .10. Wawasee’s 200 free relay also were winners at 1:41.28.
Wawasee will return to action next Tuesday at Concord, a huge matchup in the girls NLC race. Diving begins at 4:45 p.m. and swims at approximately 6:15 p.m.
