It doesn’t matter whether they’re on your nice or naughty list, you’ll find gifts for everyone at the Friends of the Library “Deck the Halls” Book Sale Dec. 5-7 in the North Webster Community Center Banquet Hall. Bargain prices, great selection and a good cause combine to make the FOL Book Sale a win-win for everyone. Sale hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. All proceeds go to help the library.
Throughout the Book Sale on Thursday, Dec. 5, repurpose book demonstrations will show shoppers how to turn old books into decorative items, gifts and other useful objects. Come to the sale and discover the many clever ways you can re-utilize old books.
At 11 a.m. on Saturday morning, Dec. 8,, Book Sale shoppers will be treated to a free Celtic Music Performance by the group Soltre while they browse for bargains. North Webster native Sean Ellsworth-Hoffman, along with Rick Willey of St. Joseph, Mich., and Adam Carter from Goshen, Ind., combine their multi-instrumental and vocal talents into a Celtic-inspired blend of traditional Irish music and old-time dance tunes that get your toes a-tapping. You’ll be dancing a jig with lively music and money-saving bargains!
In addition to thousands of gently used books, movies, CD’s, games and puzzles for all ages, the Friends of the Library will also be selling baked goods and their annual 12-month calendars at the sale. The calendars feature historic photos of North Webster and will be available for $5 each until sold-out.
Add a personal touch to your holiday greetings this year by making your own Christmas cards. Learn how at the Make and Take Card Class at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5. Instructor Hope Beezley will show you how to design and create original greeting cards. Register at the Front Desk and pay a $7 class fee that includes all materials, plus you get to take home all the cards you make in class.
Teens will be kicking off Christmas early during Teen-Only Movie Time at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, at in the library meeting room. Showing is a Christmas comedy classic that touches close to home. The PG rated movie is about a boy growing up in Northern Indiana during the 1940’s who wants a BB gun for Christmas, but runs into opposition from his parents, teacher, and even Santa Claus himself. You’ll laugh at the many surprises that come his way. The movie is free for all teens in grades 6-12 along with all the popcorn they can eat!
Save the date for 6:30 p.m. Dec. 19, when the library hosts its annual Christmas Celebration in the North Webster Community Center Banquet Hall. This year’s theme is “The Magic of Christmas” and will include an evening of child-like wonder for all ages with free refreshments, special entertainment, prizes and other surprises.
