Holiday Help
Let the library help you enjoy the holidays. We have many books dealing with all aspects of the holiday season. For that warm fuzzy Christmas feeling, watch inspiring Christmas stories on one of our many holiday DVDs, such as Christmas Angel, starring Della Reese and Teri Polo. Other DVDs include Thomas Kinkade Presents Christmas Lodge, with Erin Karpluk and Debbie Macomber’s Call Me Mrs. Christmas, starring Doris Roberts. Listen to your favorite artist sing on their latest Christmas CD, like Lady Antebellum On This Winter’s Night.
The Library has many decorating books to inspire you with new ideas. Check out Leslie Linsley’s Quick Christmas Decorating Ideas. Create your own wreath or garland with ideas found in Christmas with Country Living, Volume III. The Milford Public Library subscribes to many magazines filled with decorating ideas, recipes and gift suggestions to help make this time a year a little less stressful and more fun.
Hundreds of Christmas recipes can be found in the 641.5 area of non-fiction in the Library. Take home Holiday Cooking, Around the World, by Kari Cornell and have an international menu for your holiday get-togethers. Gooseberry Patch Christmas Book 7 has recipes, decorating and craft ideas. Try the recipe for Green Bean-Corn Casserole or maybe Caramel Pecan Pie. Mary Engelbreit’s ‘Tis the Season Holiday Cookbook is filled with a parade of wonderful soups and salads, pies and tarts, and cookies and candies. If you are a busy mom but still want a variety of holiday cookies, have a get together with four of your close friends. Each person should bring two dozen of their favorite Christmas cookies. Then before everyone goes home, you exchange cookies. Everyone leaves your get together with a delicious variety of cookies and they only had to bake two dozen. Plus you get to have a great time with friends!
Let’s not forget Christmas crafts. What a wonderful gesture to give something you have made. Books can be found on all kinds of crafts in the adult non-fiction section under 745.5. Books on every craft you can think of … knitting, cross-stitch, photo collage, calligraphy and many others await you on the shelf. If you are looking for something specific, just ask a clerk for help.
Christmas can also be found in our Children’s department. Many picture books, craft books, holiday DVDs and CDs are yours for the asking.
We hope you have a wonderful holiday season. Let the library help inspire you so this can be your best Christmas ever.
