WCPL Prepares For The Holidays
Article by Stephanie Hershberger
What do you like about the holidays? I find myself enjoying too many things – gathering together with family and friends, comfort foods, cozy sweaters, decorating our tree, reading stories to my youngest and eating desserts without feeling guilty. I also love to see children with smiles on their faces.
Plan bringing your family out on a hopefully cold and clear from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 7, Saturday morning and I’ll give you a smile too. We will have Santa here with one of his reindeer and friends. Animal-Grams, from North Manchester, will be here to help us get in the holiday spirit. The Christmas Reindeer and his pony friend, Sparkle, will be dressed with bells on outside the library.
Plan to join me all bundled up for this wonderful wintery program Animal-Grams will present. The children will be able to get close and possibly touch the animals.
Once you enjoy the animals outside WCPL, walk inside for a warm holiday feel and head down the stairs toward Room AB to have a talk with Santa. Santa will be arriving at 10:30 a.m. and will answer all your children’s requests till 1:30 p.m. Parents, don’t forget your cameras. The library will be offering each child a delicious Christmas cookie after they sit on Santa’s lap.
The Children Services needs your child’s help starting Dec. 7 and throughout the entire Christmas holiday. We will have ornaments for each child to make to decorate our Christmas tree. A second ornament may be made to take home as our thank you during the holidays. You will be able to find all supplies for the ornaments in the Children Services Dept. on the second floor during library hours.
The Children Services offers a varied holiday collection to choose from. To help you we have marked each holiday book on the top spine with colored tape. You will find Hanukkah marked with red, Christmas marked with green and Kwanzaa marked with purple. All holiday books may be checked out for 7 days.
All you Lego lovers out there, don’t forget Lego Club from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Dec. 14. Come on down to Room C and enjoy building with your friends. Be on the lookout for a new time beginning 2014.
