Prep Basketball Roundup
The Lakeland Christian Academy girls basketball team opened its season in fine fashion Friday night.
The host Cougars rolled to a 42-10 win over South Bend Career Academy in action in Winona Lake.
LCA took a 16-0 lead after the opening quarter and led 28-3 at halftime.
Sophomore Carissa Urschalitz led the way for the winners with 16 points.
Sophomore Rachel Sands scored 11 points for LCA. Emily McComb netted seven points and Brighty Walters and Hannah Remington each had six for the Cougars.
Kei Kei Worsham tallied six points to lead South Bend Career Academy.
LCA plays at Howe Saturday night and hosts Churubusco Tuesday. South Bend Career Academy plays at Wawasee next Friday evening.
Triton Rolls To Victory
Kylie Mason poured in 25 points as Triton opened its season Friday night by routing host North Judson 70-32.
Taylor Hatfield added 17 points for the Trojans, who are ranked No. 9 in Class 1-A.
Triton (1-0) hosts Argos and North Judson (0-1) hosts Bremen Tuesday night.
Wildcats Drop Home Opener
Columbia City pulled away in the final quarter to top Whitko 81-68 Friday night in South Whitley.
The Eagles outscored the Wildcats 13-3 in the fourth stanza. Whitko, which opened the season with a 66-44 win at Central Noble on Tuesday, drops to 1-1.
Freshman Ally Reiff led Whitko with a game-high 20 points.
Senior Kelly Reiff scored 14 points and classmate Jordan Hall added 11 for the Wildcats. Sophomore Jennifer Reiff had 10.
Whitko (1-1) plays at Churubusco Saturday night. Columbia City (1-0) hosts Fort Wayne Snider Tuesday.
