Ousley Opts For IUPUI
WARSAW – Warsaw Community High School senior Ashley Ousley has spent a great deal of her time on softball diamonds since she was a young girl.
The dedication, passion and outstanding play of the speedy Tiger outfielder has resulted in an offer to play softball at IUPUI in Indianapolis next year.
Ousley was impressive with the Tigers through her first three seasons where she has twice earned All-Northern Lakes Conference honors and was the 2013 Golden Glove Award winner for Coach Jim Speicher’s Tigers. Her outstanding play led to an opportunity to participate for a travel team based out of Indianapolis last season where she hit an impressive .390 with a pair of home runs, 12 doubles and 16 RBI.
Ousley, a North/South Indiana All-Star last season for WCHS, has competed for many years on the travel circuit and was a member of several national championships teams for travel softball, including the 2007 and 2008 National Championships for USA and ASA “A” divisions respectively.
A member of the WCHS Tiger Student Athletic Board for two years, a Scholar Athlete, Ousley demonstrated her athleticism playing three sports through her first two years, having competed in both basketball and volleyball. A Peer Tutor and Special Olympics Volunteer, Ousley has also been involved with Toys-For-Tots, Mathletes, Breast Cancer Benefit Volunteer, earned the Principal Scholarship award in 2009, and was a Principal Citizenship Award winner in 2008.
As impressive as Ousley has been on the diamond, she has sparkled in the classroom as well by performing in the top half of the class and earning an 8.75 GPA (B+ average).
The daughter of Stacey and Barry Ousley, Ashley will compete for coach Amanda Rivera and the Jaguars next year. With a desire to help make a difference in the lives of others, especially those with disabilities, Ousley credits Warsaw’s Peer Tutoring experiences as helping lead her toward majoring in Elementary Education while earning a dual license in Special Education, focusing on moderate and severe disabilities.
