Cheviron Resigns At Goshen
GOSHEN – Make it two football coaching vacancies in the Northern Lakes Conference.
Mike Cheviron has resigned after three seasons as the head football coach at Goshen High School.
Cheviron joins former NorthWood coach Scott Hoover as NLC coaches to resign since the end of the season. Hoover resigned on Oct. 26 after five seasons in Nappanee.
The Redskins went 6-25 the past three seasons under Cheviron, including an 0-10 mark this fall. Goshen concluded its season with a 35-21 playoff loss to Elkhart Central last Friday night. The Redskins were 4-17 in NLC action the last three years, including 0-7 this campaign. Goshen was outscored 335-125 this season.
Cheviron previously coached at Fort Wayne Carroll and Fort Wayne South Side before taking over at Goshen in 2011. The 50-year old said that he plans to continue to teach physics at Goshen High School for now and wants to coach again in the future.
The Goshen football program has fallen on hard times recently. The Redskins have had six coaches since Brad Park had an 81-34 mark from 1993 to 2002, including an 11-1 season in 2002.
Goshen, which won state championships in 1978 and 1988, is 37-78 over the last 11 seasons.
