Wildcats Win Special For Seniors
SOUTH WHITLEY – The senior members of the Whitko volleyball team made their final home match one to remember Thursday night.
The trio of Whitney Hobbs, Taylor Zwick and Dana Hobbs led the way to a milestone moment in their high school careers for the Wildcats.
Whitko topped Caston 25-19, 25-12, 20-25, 29-27 in the regular-season finale.
The win on Senior Night gave the Wildcats their ninth win of the season, the most for the program since 1998.
Hobbs, a middle blocker, led the winners with 10 kills and 10 blocks for coach Brandy Smith’s squad.
Zwick, another middle blocker, had five kills and five blocks for the Wildcats. Senior libero Hobbs had 13 digs and an ace for Whitko.
Maddie Gawthrop had nine kills, 14 digs and an ace for Whitko. Elaine Warner had 31 assists and four aces.
Whitko won the junior varsity match 25-5, 25-15. Whitney Marsh had 11 kills for the JV Wildcats. Riley Insley had four aces and Haley Yohe 19 assists for the winners.
Whitko begins postseason play Tuesday versus host West Noble in the Class 3-A Sectional in Ligonier. The Wildcats face the Chargers at 7 p.m.
