Project Lifesaver Locates Missing Person
Police from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department and Elkhart City Police Department successfully utilized a technology known as Project Lifesaver to locate an elderly man who wandered from his residence Wednesday night.
Project Lifesaver has been utilized by officers in Elkhart County since 2005 when a 71-year-old Alzheimer’s patient had been located within 13 minutes. The technology fits individuals with a bracelet that contains a transmitter that can be activated to locate the patient. Project Lifesaver also helps those suffering from autism, Prader-Wili, dementia and cognitive disorders.
On Wednesday night, at approximately 10:42 p.m., officers were called to the 800 block of 11st Street in Elkhart when the elderly Alzheimer’s patient could not be found. The Project Lifesaver technology located the man within 24 minutes near 4th and Harrison streets. He was unharmed.
