John W. ‘Jack’ Alexander Jr.
John W. ‘Jack’ Alexander Jr., 81, of North Webster, Ind., passed away unexpectedly at 11:08 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
He was born on Sept. 7, 1932, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to John W. Alexander, Sr. and Edith M. (Brown) Alexander. He was a 1950 graduate of Langley High School, Pittsburgh. On Aug. 7, 1953, he was married to Carol Bonner in Pittsburgh. On Jan. 8, 1953, in Pittsburg, John enlisted in the United States AIr Force. He served during the Korean War; A/1C John W. Alexander, Jr. was honorably discharged Dec. 10, 1956, from Parks Air Force Base, Calif.
He lived in Kosciusko County since 1971 after moving from Pittsburgh. John was a sales agent for Prudential Insurance for 28 years, retiring in 1987. He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Warsaw, a Lay Leader within the United Methodist Church for many years, a member of American Legion Post 253, North Webster, Ind. and a member of Mizpah Shrine Temple, Fort Wayne, Ind. He was a very talented drummer who entertained with Frank Greco at local establishments. John was a life-member of Fellowship of Christian Magicians since 1973 and both sold and performed Christian magic for many years. He would give a flannel shirt off his back to someone truly in need and was well known for freely giving advise. John was a devoted family man who truly loved his wife and even was able to secretly plan and pull off a surprise party for their 60th wedding anniversary.
He is survived by his wife; four daughters: Joyce (Harry) Price, Fort Mohave, Ariz.; Judy (Mike) Wilson, North Webster, Ind.; Janice (Mark) Fife, Fort Wayne, Ind.; Joan (Tom) Anderson, Leesburg, Ind.; four sons: Jay (Jeanett) Alexander, Urbana, Ind.; Jeffrey (Gayle) Alexander, Minooka, Ill.; James (Wendy) Alexander, Warsaw; John (Char) Alexander, Milford, Ind.; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother: Reverend Robert (Gail) Alexander, Fredericksburg, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. Broken Wand memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17. Pastor David Hummel of Trinity United Methodist Church, Warsaw and Reverend Robert Alexander, South Vernon United Methodist Church, South Vernon, Ohio will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 253, North Webster, Ind. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
