Christina Hazel Redpath
Christina Hazel Redpath, 96, of Sunset Haven, Carnduff, Saskatchewan, passed away on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, surrounded by her family.
She was born to Samuel and Christina Firth of Carievale, Saskatchewan, on March 19, 1917. Hazel married Roy Redpath on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1937, in the Church Manse at Carievale. After a honeymoon to Minot, N.D., they resided on the family farm at Gainsborough, Saskatchewan. She would spend the next 72 years on the family farm, until moving to Sunset Haven Nursing Home, Carnduff, in 2009.
During the next 62 years of Hazel’s life together with husband Roy they would raise six children. Those early years on the farm would not be easy because of tough economic times but, Hazel was from the generation that never said quit and always believed there would be better times ahead. Her optimism would prove to be correct and she would have the greatest years of her life as a farmer’s wife, a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by four sons: Lloyd (Myrna) Redpath, Gainsborough; Ron (Pat) Redpath, Warsaw, Ind.; Neil (Esther) Redpath, Olds, Alberta; Larry (Kerry) Redpath, Gainsborough; two daughters: Shirley Willson, Balgonie, Saskatchewan; Eileen (Ed) Engel, Prince Albert, Saskatchewan; 20 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law: David (Gayle) Redpath, Estevan, Saskatchewan; sister-in-law: Moneta Firth, Brandon, Manitoba; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband; son-in-law: Lorne Willson; daughter-in-law: Donna; four sisters; and one brother.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, from the Gainsborough Community Hall, Gainsborough. Reverend Walter Engel will officiate and interment will be in the family plot at Winlaw Cemetery, Gainsborough.
