Lucinda ‘Cindy’ Whetstone
Lucinda “Cindy” Whetstone, 56, of Mentone, Ind., passed at 6:20 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at her residence after courageously fighting cancer for her family for 2 1/2 years.
She was born June 12, 1957, in Rochester, Ind., to Jack D. and Betty L. (Waltz) Fawley. On Oct. 16, 1976, she married Michael L. Whetstone at the Mentone United Methodist Church.
Cindy had worked for Zimmer as a bookkeeper in the late 70’s and then became a stay-at-home mom. She has also been an aide and a cook at the Mentone School. In addition to those things she was a loving farmer’s wife, mother, mamaw and sister.
She graduated in 1975 as the first Valedictorian of Tippecanoe Valley High School and was a member of the Mentone United Methodist Church. Her family was the love of her life. She enjoyed flowers, bicycling and mowing.
Cindy is survived by her husband: Michael L. Whetstone, Mentone; a daughter: Carrie (Jeremy) Bowers, Mentone; a son: Scott (Laurel) Whetstone, Mentone; five grandchildren: Abby and Aaden Bowers and Isaac, Tucker and Wyatt Whetstone; a sister: Carol (Wayne) Hintz, Francesville, Ind.; a brother: J. Steven (Carla) Fawley, Syracuse, Ind.; her mother-in-law: Fay Whetstone, Mentone; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Jack and Betty Fawley; and her father-in-law: Carl Whetstone.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, at the funeral home with Rev. Amber Karkosky-Litten. Burial is to follow at Mentone Cemetery, Mentone.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society for Research, or the Mentone United Methodist Church for the benefit of the Jack & Jill Preschool, or the Kosciusko Home Care and Hospice.
