Calderon Claims Cross Country Title
CARMEL – Eduardo Calderon led a strong showing by the Lakeview and Edgewood Middle School cross country teams with a championship performance Saturday.
Calderon, an 8th grader at Lakeview, took top honors in the Big School Race at the 13th annual Middle School State Championships. He won the race in muddy conditions after a delay due to thunderstorms.
Calderon, a first-year runner, has not lost this season. The talented 8th grader set course records at both the Indian Springs Invitational and the Culver Invitational this fall.
Calderon’s championship is the second in the last four years for a Lakeview runner at the nation’s largest middle school meet. Cameron Hoskins won the race in 2010.
The Lakeview boys placed 11th overall as a team in the meet. Also representing Lakeview were 8th graders Nathaniel Gottschalk and Colton Wottring and 7th graders William Robison, Jose Leyva and Alex Cook.
The Edgewood boys placed 18th overall. Representing Edgewood were 8th graders Mark Motter, Lucas Harvey, Justin Fleming, Kennis Dye, Taylor Mills, and Dane Stookey.
Due to malfunctions with the timing system Saturday, results were delayed. Final results will be available on www.indianaallstarrunningclub.com.
