Lancers Swing Past Spring Arbor
SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – A dominating performance from Grace’s offense led the Lady Lancers to a 3-0 volleyball victory over Spring Arbor on Friday.
The Lady Lancers (14-5; 6-5 Crossroads League) picked up their third straight win in league play, completing the season sweep of Spring Arbor.
Grace pounded out 52 kills in the three-set victory, sparked by 41 assists from freshman setter Taylor Baird. Calah Kruse continued her outstanding week with 16 kills on 28 attempts for a .536 percentage.
In the opening set, Grace amassed kills on 21 of their 25 points en route to a 25-20 win.
The Cougars (5-14; 1-9 CL) struggled mightily in the second set, tallying just seven kills to lose 25-15.
The third set proved to be the most challenging for Grace. The Lady Lancers held off the Cougars late to win 25-22 and clinch the match.
Overall, Grace’s 52 kills dwarfed Spring Arbor’s 21. Dana Johnston produced 14 kills, and Alix Underwood added nine kills on 17 attempts.
Taylor Baird and Annie Salazar had three service aces apiece, and Hannah Clemmons paced Grace’s defense with 16 digs.
The Lady Lancers continue action on Saturday with a home match against St. Francis at 3 p.m. Saturday’s match is Grace’s Cancer Care Game, so fans are encouraged to wear pink. All funds raised on Saturday will go to support members of Grace’s Athletic Department who are currently being affected by cancer.
