Lego Fun At The WCPL
By Laurie Voss Circulation Supervisor
Have you brought your children to the Warsaw Community Public Library to enjoy our Lego programs lately?
Male or female, most of us probably remember playing with Legos for hours on end. The only stop was our own imaginations! In my case, it was Lincoln Logs we played with! The times have changed.
Your library has a club that meets, usually on the first Saturday a month (but that can sometimes change, so check our calendar in the library or on our website.)
This wonderful program is for children ages 5-12. They come to the meeting room, fill a bin with the various size and shape Legos they prefer. Then they find a place on the floor to sit, and start building. It is amazing the creativity of these children! Some work alone, and others will buddy-up and build with a friend. They have a great time. Volunteers are on hand to assist also.
The library will also take photos during the program, and play a slide show, so parents and other children can see what is going on around them.
This program has been so successful, that the Youth Department is now taking it outside the library to Sacred Heart School once a month. The Legos are taken to the school, and the children there are invited to join in the fun. At this time, Sacred Heart is the only school we are visiting, due to low funding and lack of staff to assist.
Another exciting Lego program will soon be taking place in the library. The Adult Reference department will be hiding Legos within the library. This will be for all ages, and prizes will be given for finding the correct hiding places. This Lego contest will last for one week.
One last fun adventure is that we will be having a Lego hunt on our website soon. Watch for details to come on that.
We hope you can stop in with your children and take part in the many programs that we have for all ages.
And don’t forget to check out our Lego books and find your own adventures.
