Syracuse Man Arrested For Battery
A Syracuse man is behind bars today after allegedly beating a woman in front of her minor child.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed by Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Shane Bucher, Randy Wayne Avery, 33, of 9137 N. Koher Rd., Syracuse, was arguing with his girlfriend on Sept. 3. The woman attempted to leave the residence with her minor daughter when Avery pushed them back inside the residence and began punching the woman in the face as her child watched.
The woman was reportedly bleeding heavily and she was in extreme pain from the incident. She told the officer she was forced to hide her face from her child due to the blood and bruising from the battery.
The woman was able to leave the residence on Sept. 4, and went to Kosciusko Community Hospital for treatment where it was discovered she had a maxillary sinus fracture, contusion of the face and a broken nose. At the time, the woman reported she had fallen down the stairs due to her fear of Avery. Later, on Sept. 13, she reported the incident in full to officer Bucher.
Avery was arrested yesterday on one count of battery causing serious bodily injury, a Class C felony; one count of domestic battery with a child under 16 years old present, a Class D felony; and one count of domestic battery, a misdemeanor. His bond has been set at $5,000.
