Wildcats Winning Ways Continue
SOUTH WHITLEY – The Whitko football team used its’ tried and true formula to continue a winning streak Friday night.
The host Wildcats took care of the football and in the process took care of Northfield for a 34-20 Three Rivers Conference win.
Whitko, which did not have a turnover, rushed for 420 yards in improving to 4-2 with its’ fourth straight win.
The Wildcats scored the final 27 points of the contest to remain undefeated in the TRC at 4-0.
Tanner Hughes had a huge night for the Wildcats. The junior tailback had 22 carries for 202 yards, including touchdown runs of one, five and 55 yards.
Northfield, which drops to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the TRC, led 14-7 at halftime and 20-7 in the third quarter.
From there, it was all Whitko as the hosts answered with the final four touchdowns on the contest.
Quarterback Ethan Nicodemus also did his part for the Wildcats. Nicodemus scored on runs of eight and 31 yards in the victory.
Whitko, which has scored 172 points during its’ four game TRC win streak, had 51 rushes for 420 yards. The Wildcats did not complete a pass in the game.
Trace Killian had nine carries for 79 yards and Devin Gerding had 11 carries for 76 yards for Whitko. Nicodemus added 63 yards on nine rushes.
Whitko remains tied atop the TRC standings with Rochester, the last two teams undefeated in league play.
Cole Kessie led the Whitko defense with 10 tackles. Garrett Smiley had eight stops and Sam Silor seven for the Wildcats.
Whitko plays at North Miami next week in conference action and then hosts Rochester and Tippecanoe Valley in the final two TRC games.
